Adverse Childhood Experiences, commonly known as ACEs, refer to potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. These experiences can include:
Abuse: Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse.
Neglect: Physical or emotional neglect.
Household Difficulties: Growing up in a household with substance abuse, mental illness, domestic violence, parental separation or divorce, or an incarcerated family member.
Research conducted by the CDC found as the number of ACEs increased, so too did the risk for several physical and mental health problems.
By providing trauma-informed care and support, we can help mitigate the negative effects of ACEs and foster environments where kids can thrive despite their past adversities.
